Use Payoneer to Receive Cross-Border Payments with WooCommerce

For many WordPress sites built for international trade, PayPal is the default payment tool people encounter most often. WooCommerce supports PayPal out of the box, which makes it convenient, but withdrawing foreign currency from PayPal into a domestic bank account can be inconvenient and expensive.

Payoneer is a useful alternative for cross-border businesses. Compared with PayPal, the fees can be lower, and moving funds into a domestic bank account is often more convenient.

Register a Payoneer account and get receiving accounts

Using Payoneer is fairly straightforward. After registration, the system assigns several virtual receiving bank accounts that can be used to receive payments from overseas customers or businesses.

When a customer wires funds to one of those accounts, the balance appears in your Payoneer dashboard, and from there the money can be withdrawn directly to a linked domestic bank account.

Use Payoneer bank details in WooCommerce

If you want to use Payoneer with WooCommerce, the simplest approach is to configure the bank transfer payment method and use the receiving account details assigned by Payoneer as the payout destination.

Unfortunately, Payoneer does not currently offer a direct payment API for WooCommerce checkout in the same way that PayPal, Alipay, or Stripe do. That means you cannot automatically confirm customer payments in real time through a gateway callback.

Withdraw PayPal balance to a domestic bank account through Payoneer

If your site also receives payments through PayPal, you can often transfer the PayPal balance to Payoneer’s USD receiving account without a handling fee, then withdraw it to a domestic bank account from Payoneer. In the example described in the original article, a withdrawal completed in about three days, which is quite fast.

Payoneer prepaid MasterCard

Once the account has received at least the required minimum amount, Payoneer also offers a prepaid MasterCard. The balance on that card reflects your Payoneer balance and can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted, including ATMs, physical stores, and online merchants.

In cross-border commerce, one of Payoneer’s main roles is to simplify interactions with overseas banking systems. It reduces the need to handle every transfer manually through a physical bank branch while still keeping the funds inside formal banking channels.
