WordPress 4.5 Beta 1 Adds Site Logo Support and More UI Refinements

WordPress 4.5 Beta 1 is available for anyone who likes to test new releases early. Overall, WordPress 4.5 does not add a huge number of major features, but it does include a range of small user-experience refinements.

  • Responsive previews in the Customizer: you can preview the site in phone, tablet, and desktop modes directly inside the Customizer.
  • Site logo support: themes can now support uploading a logo from the admin area instead of hardcoding it into templates.
  • Inline link editing: links can be edited directly inside the visual editor instead of always using the toolbar button.
  • Improved editor shortcuts: more text shortcuts were added, such as Markdown-like triggers for code blocks and bold text.
  • Better comment moderation: reviewing comments is more pleasant and includes a clearer front-end preview experience.
  • More efficient image generation: unnecessary image data was reduced, which can significantly lower file size without obvious quality loss.
  • Embed template support: themes can override the default embed template more easily.

If you maintain themes or plugins, this is a good time to start testing compatibility with WordPress 4.5 before the final release arrives.
